Basic Economic Development Course

UNC Chapel Hill

This introductory course is designed for economic development professionals employed by public, nonprofit, and private organizations and individuals new to the field. It is also appropriate for more experienced professionals seeking to update their knowledge and skills. The course is a comprehensive educational experience that integrates theoretical and practical perspectives and provides participants with the foundation needed to organize, plan, and implement economic development programs. Expert instructors will cover trends, strategies, and the core tools of the trade. The course is officially accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and counts toward the CEcD certification.

 

Economic Development Academy

East Carolina University

The Academy is comprised of two instructional paths:

Offered in partnership with the North Carolina Economic Development Association, the certification program provides practical knowledge concerning the practice of economic development in North Carolina to economic development personnel. Participants who wish to earn the certification must complete seven (7) courses and a capstone project for a total of 84 contact hours. While successfully completing the course of study will lead to the North Carolina Certified Economic Developer designation, courses may be taken as desired without formal matriculation in the certification program.

Designed for non-practitioners, the Honors Seminar is a four (4) hour place-based program customized around the unique needs of the market area in which it is taught. This training will benefit elected officials, volunteers, community leaders and citizens, business leaders and others interested in and engaged in economic development leadership.
