What Members Say About NCEDA

NCEDA members benefit in many ways, including education and training, opportunities to expand their personal networks of economic development professionals, gaining skills and knowledge for career advancement, and the satisfaction of affecting legislative actions related to economic development and North Carolina’s economy.

Even more important, members have the opportunity to develop lasting relationships with their fellow professionals throughout the state, giving them important connections for developing future projects, resources for advice and ideas, mentors to help them sharpen their skills, and all the benefits of friendly fellowship with like-minded people.

North Carolina is a large state with many different areas, so it’s no surprise that when we ask NCEDA members what they most appreciate about their involvement with the association, they give us a wide range of answers. Here are some of our favorites:

“NCEDA helped smooth my transition into the economic development profession and is an ongoing source of information and support. The conferences feature top speakers from around the state and are great opportunities to learn about new programs and tools that can keep rural North Carolina counties like ours competitive.”

Tommy Jenkins
Director, Macon County Economic Development Commission

“NCEDA conferences and networking luncheons are an efficient way to stay current on news and information affecting North Carolina’s economic development community. I’ve made and nurtured many valuable professional contacts at NCEDA events and, along the way, made some of the fondest memories of my career.”

Lee Anne Nance
Senior Vice President / Chief Strategic Officer, Stewart

“NCEDA does a lot of things that make life better for local economic developers. Best of all, the organization keeps me informed about what’s going on at the state level, in the legislature, at Commerce and EDPNC.  As much as any single organization, NCEDA has been there for me through the good times and the not-so-good times during my 21 years in the economic development field.”

Greg Cummings
Retired Director, Robeson County Economic Development Commission

“Economic development partnerships are critical to our ability to relocate companies and families to North Carolina.  Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Carolinas Realty is all about making good neighbors, and NCEDA is always at the top of their game as a connector, legislative advocate and all-around team player!”

Cecily Durrett
Director, Relocation & Business Development,
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Carolinas Realty

“Coming from out of state, I didn’t know what to expect when I relocated to North Carolina. Though I had been involved in economic development for over 30 years, North Carolina was a whole new experience for me. I was pleasantly surprised at the warm reception I experienced from NCEDA members. They guided and supported me through some of my early trials, and I now consider many of them great mentors and friends. I would strongly recommend membership in the NCEDA if you are involved in economic development in North Carolina.”

Jim Bradshaw
Economic Development Director,
Cape Fear Council of Governments
