Legislative Updates Affecting Economic Development

The Legislative Committee of the North Carolina Economic Development Association (NCEDA) communicates regularly with our members to keep them informed about relevant legislation and other news affecting economic development professionals in our state. We also post items of current interest here.

2017 Economic Development Legislative Priorities
Strengthen Policies and Programs that Support North Carolina’s Business Competitiveness to Create Quality Jobs, Generate Private Investment and Secure Company Locations and Expansions
Priority 1 – Eliminate the cap and sunset on the Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) to make JDIG a completely viable tool for both rural and urban areas of the state.
Priority 2 – Expand funding to the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) and the NC Department of Commerce (NCDOC)
for marketing, business recruitment, and existing business expansion, and establish a closing incentive fund to help North Carolina compete for high impact economic development projects.
Priority 3 – Develop viable industrial sites – including mega sites – in rural, suburban and urban areas of the state by funding and activating the NCDOC Site Infrastructure Development Fund.
