One Group Is Unreservedly Happy About the Election Results

While finishing third-place in an election isn’t usually cause for celebration, libertarians are “ecstatic” over last week’s returns. Political strategist Liz Mair calls the results a “silver lining out of the country’s political divisions.” In terms of policy direction, it may be the best possible outcome for lean government advocates: divided control of Congress likely means no big spending blowouts. They also prefer Joe Biden’s friendlier record on trade and immigration over Donald Trump’s protectionism. “Libertarians view legal immigration, and especially high-skilled workers, as an economic boon to the country and like that free trade keeps prices down for American consumers and extends our opportunities to sell abroad,” Mair writes.
