North Carolina Studies Offshore Wind Opportunities

An important source of future job creation for North Carolina is now taking shape in the form of offshore wind energy. The Office of Science, Technology and Innovation at the NC Department of Commerce recently issued an RFP calling for consultant expertise to assess supply chain and infrastructure assets. The study aims to identify emerging opportunities in commercial-grade wind energy off the North Carolina coast and explore prospects for North Carolina businesses to supply wind energy operations along the East Coast. “We applaud the leadership of the state of North Carolina in moving forward to harness this once-in-a-generation opportunity that offshore wind energy is bringing to coastal communities up and down the Atlantic seaboard,” said Laura Morton, Senior Director at the American Wind Energy Association. “North Carolinians across the state can expect to experience benefits that come with offshore wind, such as an increase in local well-paying jobs, economic investments to revitalize port infrastructure, more affordable, stabilized electricity costs, and improved environmental conditions.”
