NC A&T Hires Patent Expert to Promote Economic Development

Research efforts at North Carolina A&T University are showing significant momentum, with funding in each of the past three years hitting record levels – most recently $64 million in 2018-2019. Those programs are poised for more success now that the Greensboro-based campus has hired Eric Muth as Vice Chancellor of Research and Economic Development. NC A&T leaders lured Muth away from Clemson University, where he chaired the Intellectual Property Committee, served as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, and taught psychology. While at Clemson, Muth helped bring $8 million in federal funding from federal agencies and private corporations. The news comes in the wake of other key initiatives at NC A&T, one of North Carolina’s two land-grant institutions. In 2019, the campus created “Centers of Excellence” in cyber-security, advanced manufacturing and entrepreneurship, and was selected by the NC Department of Transportation to play a lead research role in a Center of Excellence in autonomous vehicles.
