Thanksgiving Message from NCEDA President Patricia Mitchell
As Thanksgiving approaches it is the ideal moment to pause and take stock for all that we have. We live in a state with a rich tradition of vision and innovation. North Carolina is known for its many firsts – the country’s first public university and the birth of manned aviation, for example. That pioneering spirit lives on today, seen in our cutting-edge financial service companies, live-saving medical research, world-leading data sciences, precision manufacturing and more. Our state’s economy is the envy of most around the country and the world. The talent, infrastructure, affordability and quality of life here all converge to put us more or less immediately on the short list of global business destinations.
We are not without our challenges too, of course. But with the exceptional leadership and expertise North Carolina is known for, we can find creative solutions to overcome just about any hurdle. The state’s economic development community is part of this long legacy of leadership, with dedicated professionals drawn from a wide array of places, backgrounds and traditions. Each of us is committed to service, to our communities and to the state. As North Carolina economic developers, we can tap a valuable inventory of assets, amenities and resources. Best of all – through NCEDA – we have access to each other. And for that fact alone, I am very grateful.
Dr. Patricia Mitchell, CEcD
