Opinion: Ivanka Trump, Wilbur Ross: President Redoubles Efforts to Ensure Good Jobs For All
When Ivanka Trump and US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross visited the Charlotte Region earlier this month to highlight workforce training solutions, Mayor Vi Lyles was among the local leaders joining them to discuss ways companies can prepare workers for the available jobs. “Today’s labor market challenges combined with rapid technological change call for a clear national workforce strategy,” write Ross and Trump in an op-ed summarizing the rationale for Trump Administration policy. “Government, business, education and labor must come together to ensure American workers are prepared for the increasingly high-skilled jobs that companies are creating.” Mayor Lyles is among the 25 members of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, a group of executives, elected officials, educators, union leaders and others tasked by the White house with compiling recommendations for policy action to promote career pathways, use data to pair available workers with open positions, re-shape hiring practices and encourage businesses to invest in their employees. “Employer-led training is an often-invisible cornerstone of our nation’s worker education and training system,” Secretary Ross and Ms. Trump write.
