HURRICANE FLORENCE: I-40 reopens; ILM floodwaters to crest Tuesday

As post-hurricane recovery efforts continue in southeastern North Carolina, the re-opening of I-40 has restored a major transportation connection into Greater Wilmington. The storm had significant impact throughout the region, including the flooding of about 3,000 buildings in Pender County alone. The Port of Wilmington has resumed full operations. “North Carolina Ports’ facilities in Wilmington and Morehead City suffered some damage during Hurricane Florence,” said Paul Cozza, executive director of the NC Ports Authority. “Our employees along with local, state and federal agencies worked around the clock to get our waterside terminals up and running as quickly and safely as possible.”
