NCEDA recognizes and supports the advancement of outstanding practitioners by annually awarding three scholarships for professional development.

These scholarships honor individuals whose contributions to the profession, commitment to high professional and personal standards, and professional success earned the respect of peers and associates:

  • The Dan Stewart Scholarship to the Economic Development Course provides tuition ($575) to the one-week basic economic development course at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
  • The Jack Ervin Scholarship to the Economic Development Institute provides tuition ($1,950) to the three-year Economic Development Institute.
  • The Governor James E. Holshouser Professional Development Scholarship provides general support ($3,000) toward the cost of attending the Economic Development Institute.

Scholarship recipients are recognized at NCEDA meetings, in the newsletter and in news releases to local media.

Applications are received in late December and awarded at the MidWinter Conference in March.

“After changing to the economic development field following a 20-year career in commercial banking, I found I needed to learn economic development from the basics forward…The classes have not only enhanced my professional skills but have helped me accelerate knowledge that would have taken years of on-the-job experience.”
